Frequently asked questions
What does Video Spell Checker do?
It reads every frame of on-screen text in your rendered video files (lower thirds, titles, captions) and finds misspellings. You get a frame-accurate report: jump to each typo by timecode, generate a PDF report, or export markers for Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve.
Does my video get uploaded?
Never. The app reads your video on your Mac and uploads only cropped images of the flagged text, the flagged words, and their timecodes. Your video file stays on your machine. The Privacy Policy spells out exactly what moves and what we keep.
What happens to the uploaded frames?
They are deleted after analysis. We do not store them, they are encrypted, and not even Video Spell Checker staff can see them. What we keep for 30 days is the verification results and a technical fingerprint of the file, so re-checking a corrected export is cheap.
How does the check actually work?
Every check runs in two stages. First a pass on your Mac reads every frame of on-screen text and flags anything that might be a mistake. Then Spell Checker Cloud verifies each flag with AI, so you review a short list of real errors instead of pages of false alarms. Doing the heavy reading locally and sending only the flags is what keeps the price at minutes-of-video rates instead of upload-your-whole-video rates.
Can I run a check without the cloud?
You can, for footage that must never leave the machine. Be warned: the local pass is deliberately paranoid and throws a lot of false positives, because sorting them out is the cloud's job. Local-only means reviewing that raw list by hand.
Will it catch every mistake?
No, and we won't pretend otherwise. This is machine processing (OCR plus AI language models), not a human proofreader. It catches the typos people skim past, and it will occasionally miss one or flag something that's fine. It assists your quality control; final sign-off stays with you.
Does it check for anything else besides spelling?
Yes. It also flags black frames in your render. More checks are on the way; spelling is the flagship.
How does pricing work?
Checks are billed in minutes of video, rounded up to the nearest 30 seconds. Solo includes 60 minutes a month, Studio includes 240 shared across your team, and pay-as-you-go packs never expire. Unused monthly minutes roll over, up to 3× your monthly allowance. Full numbers are on the pricing table.
What about long videos, like weddings or documentaries?
Long videos are capped so they stay affordable: anything from 30 to 60 minutes counts as just 30 minutes, and anything over an hour (up to 3 hours) counts as 60. Verify a feature film for the price of an hour. Videos over 3 hours are not supported yet.
I fixed the errors and re-exported. Do I pay full price to check again?
No. Check, fix, re-export, re-check is the whole point. We recognize a re-submitted video for 30 days using technical details and hash values (duration, filename patterns, a file fingerprint), never the content itself, so a re-check is billed at one fifth of the standard rate. How re-checks work.
What languages does it check?
English only for now: US, UK, Canadian, and Australian variants. It validates against the exact variant you pick, so favorites passes a US check and colour passes a Canadian one. More languages are coming; the app never lets you select a language it can't genuinely check.
Can I get the errors onto my Premiere Pro timeline?
Yes. Export markers as XML, or use the free Video Spell Checker panel for Premiere Pro: load the report, pick your sequence, and every finding lands as a marker placed by source timecode.
What happens if a verification job fails?
Its minutes go back to your balance automatically. You never pay for a job that did not finish, and a cloud failure never touches your local results.
How many Macs can I use?
Solo covers 2 Macs and Studio covers 5, all drawing from one shared pool of minutes. Sign-in is a code sent to your email, and each machine can be revoked individually from the app's settings, for example when an editor leaves the studio.
What do I need to run it?
A Mac with Apple Silicon running macOS 14 or later.
